On June 11, Terrence J. McAllister, head of our Trademark Practice, led a discussion that focused on “Trademark Basics for Business Start-Ups” for The Women’s Business Development Council. The discussion focused on the core issues involved in choosing, clearing and protecting trademarks and brands for new business start-ups. Related IP topics of importance were also discussed, including copyrights, work-for-hire agreements, and non-disclosure agreements. The Women’s Business Development Council, a nonprofit founded in 1997, is the preeminent resource for women entrepreneurs in Connecticut for education, advising, and grants. They serve over 3,500 clients a year through group classes, courses, and one-on-one advising to help business owners learn the skills to start and run thriving businesses.
