Bio

Mr. Dean prepares and prosecutes patent applications, renders legal opinions, and provides intellectual property counseling for a range of national and international clients.  Mr. Dean has over 34 years of intellectual property experience in both corporate law departments and law firms.  Mr. Dean was Patent Counsel for The Dow Chemical Company for 12 years, including site counsel at the Granville Research Center.  His experience at Dow included drafting and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications and foreign oppositions, rendering of opinions, worldwide counseling regarding intellectual property matters, and negotiation and drafting of various agreements, including joint development and licensing agreements.  At Dow, he worked in technology areas of polymer films and foams, detergents, antimicrobials, cellulose chemistry and plastic zipper bags.  Mr. Dean has been in private practice for over 25 years. His experience includes drafting and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications, rendering of opinions, and worldwide counseling regarding intellectual property matters.  Mr. Dean has worked in the technology areas of catalysts and catalyst systems, pharmaceutical dosage forms, pharmaceutical intermediates and end products, lubricants, polymer blends, polymeric surfactants, surfactants, silicones, and skin and cosmetic compositions.  In 2022, Mr. Dean joined Ruggiero, McAllister & McMahon LLC as a Member.  His practice includes drafting and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications, rendering of opinions, and worldwide counseling regarding intellectual property matters.  In recent years, Mr. Dean has devoted a significant portion of his time to pharmaceutical patent prosecution and related opinion work. Mr. Dean taught advanced patent prosecution at the Practising Law Institute in New York City for 9 years.  He is a past president of both the Connecticut Intellectual Property Law Association and the Arkansas Academy of Chemical Engineers.
